Families don’t struggle because they’re unprepared or uneducated.
They struggle because the system isn’t designed to support them.
In the hospital, parents are surrounded by skilled nurses, monitoring, and reassurance. Then they return home, recovering physically, learning to feed, navigating sleep, adjusting hormonally and emotionally, largely on their own.
The support doesn’t fail, it simply ends. And yet, the need does not.
In February 2022, I gave birth to my second child.
Even though I had been a mother for years, and a stepmother even longer, everything felt new again. Every baby changes you. There’s a quiet, powerful rebirth that happens with each child.
At the time, I was working as an overnight nurse in Mother/Baby and NICU care at Huntsville Hospital. I loved those sacred first nights with families, the questions, the joy, the steady reassurance.
But even after one or two nights, it never felt like enough. Families were sent home still healing. Still learning. Still unsure. And I couldn’t stop thinking: There has to be more support than this.
Less than six months after my son was born, North Alabama Newborn Nurse was born too.
The Beginning
Built with IntentionNorth Alabama Newborn Nurse was not created to offer shifts.
It was created to offer continuity.
It was built to extend the clinical safety and emotional steadiness of experienced nursing care beyond the hospital walls and into the home.
What began as a response to a need has grown into a structured, RN-led practice serving families across North Alabama.
Every element, from our shared clinical standards to our coordinated services, is designed with intention.
